early spring

lavender tulips
manhandle the new-fallen snow
pushing to the top

warm winds awaken
sun yellow dandelions
surrounded by snow

The prompt from carpe diem haiku today is early blossom.

    But it’s a great image.
Fanciful, though – tulips are so delicate.

    Cheers!

Manhandling is a bold and dramatic image for the tulips!

Tulips in the fresh fallen snow … wonderful scenery … often to see here in The Netherlands.

Oh I wish for tulips manhandling the snow. We know who will be the winner.

    The snow is gone,
    the beaver pond is open,
    the frogs are singing
    and the cranes are back
    a week ahead of schedule.

    The two of them
are standing brown in the field
    when I drive home, wondering
    what took me so long.
    I shrug my shoulders

    And they return the gesture
    with tentative wing flaps,
    tender preludes to love,
    sweet flirtations of old mates
    weary after a long flight.

Write about us in your way,
    I hear them say,
    with your plain words,
    sincere and sentimental,
steady and true as the sun

    and the magnetism of desire.

    blooming irises

    are dreams buried deeply that

    push from earth to sky

it seems to me crocuses always manage to find a way to sneak around all obstacles.
