500 year storm

flood water rising

eating at the riverbanks

large bites of the shore

old pathways for all crumble

forcing change on everyone

tanka 5.13

tomatoes simmer

with basil, onions, garlic

filling the kitchen

complex depths with simple things

found in sauces, love, and you

Tanka on Tuesday 5.12

bumblebee looping

clumsily between flowers

pausing on each one

your head rests on my shoulder

I smell flowers in your hair

Tanka 5.3

early daffodils

crows blanket the soggy grass

mud wells with each step

I walk the hypotenuse

door to driveway to mailbox

Tanka 4.29

warm bread freshly baked

the earth just after spring rains

clothes dried in the sun

a bush laden with lilacs

my sheets still smelling like you

sweet … Haiku Friday 4.24

your teeth sink into

the powdered sugar donut

it dusts your black shirt

snow still caps the mountaintops

faintly visible at dawn

sugar on your lip

I remember the sweetness

well after dinner

honey in green tea

steam rises from the surface

faint smile on your lips

leaning against the window

you long for the mountains

I watch you sip tea

a smile flits across your face

that is not for me

my lips graze your neck

as you gaze out the window

light painting cheekbones

while your head tips to the left

wordlessly asking for more

Tanka 4.23

the north wind cuts through

our masks and sweaters sharply

stealing away breath

my hand curling within yours

warm and safe in your pocket
