by the look in your eyes

your words
so full of well-ripened sadness
running out like juice
over my lips from a pear

we picked Bartlett pears from branches so laden
they creaked and groaned beneath the burden
hard and green before the birds got them
but warmed by the sun so that hard and green
we could pretend we didn’t find the bitterness

Such a beautiful fresh image Whimsy. The comments section of your blog always really makes me smile too. Sounds like some lovely weekends over your neck of the woods. πŸ™‚
